February meeting LHFSA - invited speaker: Dr. Haydee Laza

The Latino/Hispanic Faculty and Staff Association will be hosting Haydee Laza, Tuesday February 22nd, 2022 via Zoom. Dr. Laza will present "The importance of Minority Faculty Mentorship"

Dr Laza is an Assistant Professor in the Plant and Soil Sciences at TTU (https://www.depts.ttu.edu/pss/personnel/faculty/laza-haydee/hlaza.php) since 2019.  She obtained degrees from Universidad de la Havana (Cuba), Humboldt University (Germany) and Texas Tech University.  Prior to academia, she was involved with research in agricultural, ecotoxicology, and phytomedical research.

 

The Cuban native is particularly interested in the study of semi-arid agroecosystem functioning across biological, spatial, and temporal scales using an integrative transdisciplinary approach. She is also interested in plant communication and the use of phytochemicals to improve human health. One of her primary goals here at Tech is to use applied physiology as a base to establish a collaborative network aiming to identify novel interdisciplinary research gaps and answer important biological questions addressing global food security.
