Solar Eclipse Watch Party

On October 14, 2023, there will be an annular solar eclipse over 90% visible from Lubbock. The eclipse will begin at 10:17 a.m. and end at 1: 19 p.m. with the maximum eclipse at 11:44 a.m. 


  • free solar eclipse viewers/glasses (while supplies last)
  • crafts (including making "pinhole viewers")
  • free cookies (while supplies last)
  • free Planetarium shows (limited seating)

In preparation for this historic event, which takes place on Texas Tech’s homecoming weekend and game day, the Office of Outreach and Engagement is distributing free solar glasses to the Lubbock and surround communities. Glasses will be available in English and Spanish.
