Tax Information for International Faculty/Staff/Students

All (1) foreign employees and (2) foreign students receiving nonqualified scholarships receive an email from with instructions to enter their information into GLACIER (TTU/TTUHSC's nonresident tax compliance software).  GLACIER determines the availability of any tax exemptions and provides the proper forms to be completed and returned to Tax Compliance & Reporting.  Employees are encouraged to enter their information into GLACIER as soon as possible so that the proper tax withholding occurs on their payroll checks.

Employees may be exempt from federal income tax withholding based on a treaty between the U.S. and the employee's country of residence.  Employees must complete GLACIER to take advantage of any tax treaty exemption.  For employees that have completed GLACIER and are eligible for a tax treaty exemption, an email will be sent from on November 3, 2008 with instructions on how to renew the tax treaty exemption for 2009.  Please follow the instructions to complete and return the required tax documents on or before December 5, 2008.

Form 1042S will be issued by January 31, 2009 to (1) employees that received payments subject to a tax treaty exemption and (2) students that received nonqualified scholarship payments.  The Form 1042S is necessary to complete your individual income tax return.  We are excited to announce that the 2008  Form 1042S will now be available on-line through GLACIER!  No more waiting for it to arrive in the mail, wondering if it was sent to the wrong address, or keeping track of it until reporting time AND better for our environment.  To take advantage of receiving your 1042S electronically, please re-access your GLACIER record and verify that you checked the box "yes" to receive your Form 1042S electronically.
