Food is an essential part of life, and a crucial part of social and economic systems around the world. This course explores how food is involved in criminal enterprises, social change, national identities and regional conflict, climate change, water rights, international finance, cutting-edge science & inventions, and cultural preferences. We’ll discuss all this and more. Occasionally, we’ll sample some interesting foods.
You’ll write 3 topic-based questions every week and find food-related news items to post on Blackboard. A research paper on a topic of your choice will finish the semester. No exams, no quizzes. Just plenty of interesting information to discuss.
