Author of "Unsportsmanlike Conduct" to speak at Texas Tech

The Women's Studies Program is hosting the 8th Annual Gender & Gender Identity Colloquium on October 21, 2016 from 9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. in the SUB Lubbock Room (south of the Allen Theatre).  The purpose of the Gender & Gender Identity colloquium is to provide the academic community an opportunity to present papers on, analyze, and discuss feminist research and debates over the meanings of gender.

This year we welcome Jessica Luther, freelance journalist and writer, as our keynote speaker.  She will speak 1:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m., SUB Lubbock Room. Book purchase and signing will be available.

Jessica W. Luther is an Austin-based writer who has emerged as a strong and compelling voice on issues related to sport, gender and violence. Luther is the author of Unsportsmanlike Conduct: College Football and the Politics of Rape, a book for Akashic Books, and is a contributing writer for VICESports, SI.com and RH Reality Check, a reproductive health website. Luther received a Master's Degree from UT-Austin in 2004 and a Bachelor's Degree, Summa Cum Laude, from Florida State University in 2002.
Over the last few years, she has written extensively on the intersection of sports and violence off the field, especially college football and sexual assault.

Luther is currently a fellow in the Texas Program in Sports and Media at the University of Texas and a member of the Association for Women in Sports Media. Purchase her book (09/06/16) - Unsportsmanlike Conduct: College Football and the Politics of Rape
